In October 1980, the music video for "Super Trouper" used the largest number of artists that ABBA ever used in a music video, including a full circus troupe. The spotlight featured throughout the video is, in fact, a CCT Silhouette profile spot with followspot kit, as opposed to a real Super Trouper. The city of Glasgow mentioned in the lyric was suggested by Howard Huntridge who worked with their then-UK publishers Bocu Music. The music video was directed by Lasse Hallström. Parts of the video were later reused in the clip for the song " Happy New Year" (which also features on the Super Trouper album). Salaverri, Fernando (September 2005). Sólo éxitos: año a año, 1959–2002 (1sted.). Spain: Fundación Autor-SGAE. ISBN 84-8048-639-2. While the song was written by Björn about a summer romance he had while a student, Frida’s interpretation is entirely believable, just one of many standout performances from her on this album, in some cases sadly overlooked due to the dominance of The Winner Takes It All. The recording sold 709,000 copies in United Kingdom in 1980 alone. [10] As of September 2021, it is the group's second biggest song in the country with 1.05 million chart sales, made up of 978,000 pure sales and 38 million streams. [11] The music video was directed by Sebastian Reed and was filmed in Sweden. The video shows a girl so obsessed with the band that she owns posters, magazines, mugs, clothing, and a key chain. She also copies the band's choreography that is shown on TV. Some of the articles that feature pictures of the band come to life in the video.Myers, Justin (7 November 2021). Only in Brazil their last album Super Trouper has already received a gold certification for 100,000 sold. Our dazzling array of Abba fancy dress attire is a vibrant tribute to an era that will have you humming 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!' Abba, undoubtedly one of the most iconic pop acts of the 1970s, notched up an impressive tally of over twenty top-ten hits during that unforgettable decade. Even today, their music continues to resonate worldwide, with a staggering 385 million records sold and a constant presence on the airwaves. But Abba's allure extended beyond their musical prowess; they were also renowned as style trailblazers, inspiring countless fans to emulate their legendary costumes showcased in their music videos. The band had never enjoyed touring, and now separation from loved ones while on tour was an issue for Björn, who missed his new partner, something he had never experienced with Agnetha as they were never apart. The song shot to No. 1 around the world when it was released as the second single in November 1980. So let’s explore how the Super Trouper album evolved, song by song. The tone of maturity, calm and ease was set with the first of the Barbados-written songs to be recorded: ‘Andante, Andante’, a romantic Frida-led ballad about the consummation of a love affair, told metaphorically through musical instructions. The group then continued with the synthesizer-based ‘Elaine’, ultimately destined to end up as the B-side of ‘The Winner Takes It All’. The third song was ‘The Piper’, in which lyricist Björn delved into a subject matter that had been quite unusual for ABBA up until this time. Inspired by the Stephen King novel The Stand, he wrote a lyric about the rise of a fascist-type leader. “The lyrics deal with the fear that there will come a time when people will want such a leader again,” Björn later explained. Politically related subjects would be even more frequent on ABBA’s last album, The Visitors, where the Cold War would overtly inspire at least two songs. Album– Jahrescharts: 1981". charts.de.
